This course teaches clients the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for the safe handling and storage of firearms and ammunition in the home. It explores the 3 different types of firearms (handguns, shotguns and rifles), their actions, and intended uses.

In this four-hour non-shooting course, clients are taught NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; primary causes of firearms accidents; different firearm categories; firearm parts; how to load/unload different action types; ammunition components; cleaning; care; and safe storage of firearms in the home.

The certificate earned from completing this course is accepted nationally for those states or counties that require a Firearm Safety Class.  For those where it is not required, it is also good to include with your application for a pistol permit as it demonstrates a dedication to safe and responsible gun ownership. Cost for the course is $55 and includes all materials.
