NY STATE PISTOL PERMIT CLASSES
Please Read Carefully!
There are different rules based on when you submitted
your permit application and what type of permit you want
NY STATE PISTOL PERMITS
for those who submitted applications
PRIOR TO Sept 1, 2022
or only want a Premises-Only Pistol Permit
NRA Home Firearm Safety is a nationally-recognized course that meets the requirements for those counties that require a 4 hour firearms safety course for those who submitted their pistol permit application PRIOR TO SEPT 1, 2022. PLEASE NOTE: If you received notification that your judge is asking you to complete a safety class prior to granting your Concealed Carry Permit, this 4-hour class is typically sufficient. PLEASE confirm that this is the case for you in YOUR county.
If you are not REQUIRED to take the mandated NY State training because you applied earlier than the Sept 1 changes, or if you want to apply for a premises only permit, we highly encourage you to enroll in the NRA Basic Pistol Class to begin your live-fire pistol training. We will offer this course monthly and is an excellent class for all shooters to build a solid foundation of training skills.
The NRA Home Firearm Safety Class teaches clients the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for the safe handling and storage of firearms and ammunition in the home. It explores the 3 different types of firearms (handguns, shotguns and rifles), their actions, and intended uses. In this four hour non-shooting course, clients are taught NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; primary causes of firearms accidents; different firearm categories; firearm parts; how to unload certain action types; ammunition components; cleaning; care; and safe storage of firearms in the home.
NOTE: This 4-hour safety class will NOT meet ANY of the NY State Requirements for application for a Concealed Carry Permit for anyone who submitted their applications AFTER SEPT 1, 2022.
IF YOU WANT A NY STATE CONCEALED CARRY PISTOL PERMIT, PLEASE SEE INFORMATION BELOW!
The requirements to submit a NY State Concealed Carry Pistol Permit Application in New York State include 16 hours of training with 2 hours of live-fire range time. This will be done over TWO days. You MUST successfully complete BOTH training classes to obtain a certificate of training completion for your CONCEALED CARRY pistol permit application.
Day ONE will be the NRA Basic Pistol Course. You enroll in that class and you will have use of our pistols and ammunition. Day TWO will be the course listed as Day 2: NY State Concealed Carry Training. You can do these classes in any order you choose.
NOTE: You do NOT need training to apply for a Premise Only Pistol Permit. However, upon receiving your premise-only pistol permit, we HIGHLY encourage you to complete live-fire training. Join us for NRA Basic Pistol.
